 Mr. Winston Wu

Title: Policy driven innovation and commercialization in Chinese healthcare industry

Biography: Winston Wu owns rich business management experiences in Chinese medical technology and biopharmaceutical industries. Over the past 18 years, he had worked in leadership roles with industry leading companies, including Johnson and Johnson Medical Technology, Medtronic and Allergan (AbbVie), responsible for government affairs, market access and corporate marketing. He gained a holistic view of Chinese healthcare reform and rich management experiences in drug and device businesses, including MNCs and domestic companies’ strategic changes over time. He ever participated in the national reimbursement drug list negotiations with the Chinese government and led a team to win the first medical product license by leveraging the Chinese government’s pilot policy in Boao, Hainan. In his early stage of careers, Winston worked with Xinhua News Agency as a science and technology journalist based in Beijing and Washington DC, U.S. 

Over the past decade, in particular since 2018, a series of new policies have been introduced and reforms launched in the health care industry by the Chinese government, reshaping the industry and prompting both MNCs and local companies into revising business strategies. The ensuing changing market dynamics have also influenced the players’ R&D focuses and innovation models. In his presentation, as a veteran of the healthcare MNCs with both medical technology and biopharmaceutical businesses and an active participant of the Chinese healthcare reform, Winston Wu will share his first hand industry experiences, insights of the healthcare policies and reform initiatives, and thoughts about healthcare technology innovation in this new era.
